Founded by voice teacher Kate Lanagan as a home studio in Columbia Heights, Cardon Studios has grown from one teacher and a handful of students to an online music school serving students throughout the DC metro area and beyond. Though Cardon Studios has outgrown Kate’s living room, the foundations are the same. Guided by Kate’s original vision of individualized instruction on a small number of highly specialized topics, Cardon Studios maintains its “singer songwriter” focus by offering only high-quality instruction in Voice, Piano, Guitar and Songwriting. Cardon Studios cultivates a unique music education environment: one that combines the very best of working with a private teacher with the perks of being part of a larger community.
Cardon Studios is a small, independently woman-owned music studio. We meet our students where they are to help each student find the best way to fulfill their need for musical expression in whatever style of music they feel most drawn toward. Come experience the benefits of one-on-one instruction while enjoying a supportive community of musical peers.
Cardon Studios is a safe place for students of all backgrounds, races, creeds, orientations and gender identities to find their voice.

I wanted to work on singing rock & roll, and although both teachers [I work with] are primarily classically trained, they have no trouble applying what they know to help me as a rock singer.
Lessons are tailored to you and what you hope to achieve. I have grown leaps and bounds in a short amount of time… I have also been complimented by many friends about how much my singing has improved!
VOICE AND PIANO STUDENT
I had some music training before so I wanted to brush up my skills. My instructor keeps me motivated and I always leave with something new to work on. Most importantly, I can see improvement in my skills!
VOICE AND PIANO STUDENT
My teacher definitely pushes me– we never have a lazy moment in our lessons. She is cheerfully determined to break my bad habits, invests a lot of energy into her students, and seems to get genuine pleasure out of being a teacher.
What a find: a warmhearted and truly generous teacher! No egos here, only a wonderful and satisfying learning experience.
GUITAR AND MUSIC THEORY STUDENT
I’ve really enjoyed these lessons. Working with a great teacher, I’ve surpassed my goals and expectations going into this.
