Online Voice Lessons for Washington, DC Singers

Cardon Studios began in Northwest Washington, DC in 2010 as a voice studio built around personal attention and a welcoming community of singers. Since 2020, every lesson has taken place online. For singers in the District, Maryland, and Northern Virginia, that means expert voice instruction from home, with no commute to plan around, and the same studio behind it.

A DC voice studio, now online

Kate Cardon taught music in K–12 classrooms before founding Cardon Studios in 2010. Classroom and ensemble teaching showed her how much a singer can grow with individual attention, and how rarely there is time for it in a rehearsal. Today she leads the studio, selects and trains its teachers, and matches each singer with the right one.

The studio’s roots are in DC, and today it teaches singers ages 10 and up across the United States and Canada. Teaching online makes lessons easier to fit around a busy week, and it means you can study with a teacher who suits your voice and style rather than whoever happens to be closest.

What DC-area singers work on

Singers come to Cardon Studios with all kinds of goals. Some of the most common:

  • Preparing for a school or community musical: the audition cut, a role, or a solo.
  • Singing in a community, church, or school choir, and wanting more from their own voice between rehearsals.
  • Getting ready for an audition, a recording, or a performance.
  • Starting from scratch, or coming back to singing after years away.

Teachers work across pop and rock, Broadway and musical theater, classical and opera, jazz, R&B and soul, and folk and country. There’s no audition to join, and lessons start from wherever you are today.

How lessons work

Lessons are live and one-on-one over Zoom. You’re matched with a teacher by your style, goals, age, and schedule, and you can ask to work with a different teacher if you’d like a fresh perspective. Cardon Studios teachers have advanced musical training, performing experience, and training in voice science.

Your membership includes:

  • Four private online voice lessons each month, built around your voice and what you’re working on.
  • One video coaching submission. Send a video of a song, an audition cut, or a tricky passage and get a personalized response video from your teacher within 72 hours.
  • The Learning Library of warmups, exercises, and Vocal Pathways for practice between lessons.
  • Member online events: open mic nights, group classes, and recorded showcases where you can perform or simply observe.

You schedule lessons, submit coaching videos, and rewatch your lesson recordings in your student account. Membership is $295 per month, billed monthly. You can pause or cancel from your student account with 15 days’ notice before your next billing date.

All you need is a computer, tablet, or phone with a camera and microphone, an internet connection, and a quiet place to sing.

Common questions

Where do lessons take place?

Online, live over Zoom, from wherever you are. Member events are online too, so you can take part from home.

Do you teach teenagers and younger singers?

Yes. Cardon Studios works with singers ages 10 and up. For singers under 18, a parent or guardian creates the account and pays for the membership.

I’ve never had a voice lesson. Is that okay?

Absolutely. Many singers start as complete beginners. In your first lesson, your teacher will ask about your goals and the music you love, listen to your voice, and build a plan from there.

Can I get feedback between lessons?

Yes. Each month includes a video coaching submission: record yourself, upload the video with your questions, and your teacher sends a personalized response within 72 hours.
