Our Story
Serving the Washington DC Community Since 2010
2010 - 2019: Supporting Hundreds of Students
In 2010, Kate Cardon opened Cardon Studios in Northwest Washington, D.C. with a simple belief: every voice deserves personalized attention from teachers who genuinely care. What started as a small studio has grown into the DC area’s trusted voice education community but that founding belief hasn’t changed.
For over fifteen years, we’ve welcomed singers of all ages, styles, and skill levels. Some come to us dreaming of the stage. Others just want to sing confidently at karaoke or finally feel comfortable joining in at family gatherings. Many are busy professionals carving out time for something creative. All of them find teachers who meet them exactly where they are.
2020 - 2024: Adapting to Support New Formats
In 2020, we moved our lessons fully online to accommodate continued learning and creative expression for our students during the challenging isolation of the pandemic, and we discovered something unexpected. Suddenly, we could serve students throughout the DC metro area and the Eastern time zone more flexibly than ever, bringing high-quality music education to singers even in rural areas.
Without the commute, students begin their lessons relaxed and refreshed, able to settle into music-making more readily, and able to retain more by being at home at the lesson’s end, able to review and let new concepts settle in, versus running off to catch a Metro train or battle traffic. It was immediately clear that this new approach had benefits.
2025: Introducing The Cardon Studios Platform
Our online format also made room for more frequent community events; online Open Mic Nights, Group Classes, and Student Showcases bring our singers together for support and inspiration from across the region. Our new online format naturally invited more supplemental learning options as well, our Video Coaching and Learning Library, which complements Live Lessons to truly connect all the dots between vocal technique and performance artistry.
Though unexpected, this new chapter illuminated a better way to serve the modern singer. Our new comprehensive approach bolstered singer success while also making learning more accessible for students of different needs, learning styles, and geographic limitations.
Today: Sharing our Lived Wisdom for Singer Success
Today, we continue to support this holistic and comprehensive approach to student learning. Our decade-plus of experience has led us to believe that lessons alone are not serving the full student. Nurturing singers should include personalized instruction (lessons), performance practice (events), opportunities for singers to assess themselves as an audience would (the out-of-body view that Video Coaching provides), and of course, the human element of community and relationship-building (your teacher relationships and support from your peers and supporters).
Kate personally selects and trains every teacher on our team. That’s how we maintain the standard that DC-area families have trusted for over fifteen years: expert instruction, genuine encouragement, and the belief that your voice, whatever your goals, is worth developing.
